Starting next year, the hospita l will begin the process of moving from itscurrengt 16-acre site — where it has been locatee for almost 100 years — to a 25-acrs parcel in Lakewood’s Federal Center near Kiplingb and Sixth Avenue. St. Anthony plans to open a new orthopedic-surgery hospita l at its Lakewood grounds in August 2010 and a new hospitalo to replace the Denver facility infall 2011.
Romanj said the group will take at about two year to evaluate thecurrent St. Anthony property and work with the communitg before taking requests for proposals from developers and decidse what uses will best servethe property, the hospital and the community. He added that the site’zs proximity to Sloan’s Lake Park and its scenic viewd of downtown Denver and the mountaib range make it an attractive propertfor mixed-use development that is heavy on residential but would include a large commerciao complex as well as some officer buildings. “It’s a fair assumption that much of the existing facilit willbe demolished,” Romanj said.
